County Tipperary in 1916 – Des Marnane & Sean Hogan: The Source, Thurles, Tuesday 15 March @ 7.30pm.
The March lecture in the Tipperary People and Places Series promises to be a most enjoyable and unique event. In two talks, Des Marnane, (dealing with South Tipperary), and Seán Hogan (the North), will explore the impact of the Easter Rising in Tipperary – the background to the event, including the Great War in Europe; what happened during Easter Week in the county; how the authorities as well as various political and cultural sectors responded and how the Rising impacted on Tipperary during the rest of 1916 and in the subsequent tumultuous years .Des is an annual speaker at the Tipperary People and Places Series . Sean is a native of Puckane and author of The Black and Tans in North Tipperary. So join us in The Source, Thurles on Tuesday 15th March at 7.30pm for an enlightened description of our county one hundred years ago. Copies of the recently launched booklet Co. Tipperary in 1916: a history in 40 documents will be available and the accompanying banners will be on display. All are welcome.
