“I did not choose to become a pauper but I was compelled to become one because of the persecutions of others; and since these persecutions are unjust and have continued for years, can any man say that I am wrong in entering a feeble protest against them .”
Fr John Barry, after being wronged by his bishop, spent years going in and out of the workhouses of Tipperary, before dying in Cashel workhouse in 1920. He was harshly critical of the workhouse system. This show is a dramatization of his writings by local theatre-makers Liam O Maoldhomhnaigh and Paul Maher.
A Dreamtime Theatre (Tipperary) production in association with Cashel Arts Festival. With the support of Tipperary County Council Arts Office.
