Ballydrehid National School records now online
Registers and roll books from Ballydrehid NS near Cahir have now been added to our national school archives view collection here
The records span 1872-1922 and give pupils name, address, age, religious denomination and parents occupation. They are useful for genealogy research particularly in the years before the 1901 census, but my favourite aspect are the extra subjects roll books.
The cookery class for 1911 and 1912 ( a 2 year course) was taught once a week and the girls ranged in age from 10 to 15. The typical staple diet, soda bread, bacon and cabbage and potatoes feature in both years. Fish was deleted from the first year course and the lentil soup in year two caught me by surprise.
Thanks to Ballydrehid NS for loaning the records to digitise.
