Crime, punishment and the assize record in later 17th century Tipperary

Thanks to Dr. Coleman for a most interesting exploration of the legal system and it’s workings in the palatine of Tipperary under the Butlers. While punishments were harsh there were a range of measures that could be used other than outright hanging which was legally the punishment for most felonies.
