Tipperary Studies’ Digital Archive Hits 3 Million Mark
We’re thrilled to announce that www.tippstudiesdigital.ie, Tipperary’s online digital archive, has achieved an impressive milestone of 3 million hits. This remarkable achievement underscores the platform’s vital role in preserving and sharing County Tipperary’s rich cultural heritage with a global audience.
Launched as a comprehensive digitisation initiative, tippstudiesdigital.ie offers free access to an extensive collection of historical and cultural materials. From rare manuscripts and vintage photographs to detailed maps and parish records, the archive houses unique documents exclusively held by Tipperary County Council Library Service. This digital transformation ensures that the county’s heritage remains accessible to anyone with an internet connection, anywhere in the world.
Since the counter was added in May 2020, the archive has attracted diverse users worldwide, from local genealogists tracing their family histories to international academics conducting Irish historical research. The platform’s success is reflected in its impressive visitor numbers, demonstrating the widespread interest in Tipperary’s cultural heritage.
Cllr Declan Burgess, Cathaoirleach Tipperary County Council, praised this achievement, noting that “the Tipperary Studies Digital platform was a great way of showcasing the rich and vibrant history of Tipperary to a global audience.”
The project continues to grow, with regular additions of new materials including 19th-century estate records, historical photographs, and school documents. Tipperary Studies actively collaborates with local communities, historians, and cultural organizations to expand its collection, welcoming contributions from individuals and families who wish to share their historical materials.
Whether you’re researching family history, exploring local heritage, or simply curious about Tipperary’s past, we invite you to visit www.tippstudiesdigital.ie and discover the fascinating stories within our digital archive. The milestone we celebrate today is just the beginning of our journey to preserve and share Tipperary’s remarkable heritage for future generations.
