The archives of the Office of the Chief Herald constitute a unique resource for the Irish family history. Tracing its establishment back to 1552, the records of heraldic administration include registers of grants and confirmations of arms, the Funeral Entries series, the Registered Pedigrees, correspondence, and genealogical transcriptions and notes. During the course of this lecture, an overview of this extraordinary manuscript collection will provide the context for an exploration of sources specific to Co. Tipperary and Tipperary family history
Colette O’Flaherty’s first appointment in the National Library of Ireland was to the Genealogical Office as one of the team brought together to establish a Genealogy Advisory Service. During the course of her career with the Library, she has been Assistant Keeper in the Department of Manuscripts and later Keeper of Printed and Visual Collections. In June 2010 she was appointed Keeper of Manuscripts, and to the position of Chief Herald of Ireland.
