Des is an annual speaker at the Tipperary People and Places Lecture Series and needs no introduction to anybody interested in Tipperary local history. He taught in St. Anne’s secondary school in Tipperary town. He is a founder member of the Tipperary Historical Society and an annual contributor to the Tipperary Historical Journal. He is very active in both local radio and the local community. His publications include Land and violence, Land and settlement and Cashel history and guide.
