Oaklands House and the Abbey of Inishloughnaught by Paddy O’Keeffe

Oaklands House in Clonmel, County Tipperary, was a historic late 18th century house that was destroyed by fire in 2017. The house which was close to St. Patrick’s Well Clonmel had passed through many owners in it’s lifetime. In this fascinating account, Paddy O’Keeffe weaves together his personal memories as a young apprentice gardener with an intriguing historical mystery: could this relatively overlooked estate be sitting on the site of a 7th-century abbey?

Through the lens of his early horticultural training and subsequent career, O’Keeffe explores not only the garden that shaped his future but also the tantalizing possibility that this land holds secrets dating back to medieval Ireland.
