Launch of Thurles Town 1850 Model

The Model of Thurles Town in 1850 was launched on Thursday night by Noel Dundon of the Tipperary Star.

Created by James (Jim) Condon of Butler Avenue, Thurles, the model was the joint winner of the Heritage Category of the 1988 Ford Irish Conservation Awards.

In attendance were Jim’s wife Biddy and his children Siobhán and Liam, councillor Seamus Hanafin and County Librarian Damien Dullaghan.

The gallery in the Source was packed with local people who had come to view the model, congratulate Biddy and try to match Thurles today with the town in 1850.
