Gleeson Gathering, Nenagh, August 19 – 24

Event: Friday Evening Welcome (event code A1: cost 10 euro)
Venue: The Scouts’ Hall, Ashe Rd, Nenagh Bridge, Nenagh, Tipperary
Time: the Scouts’ Hall will be open from 3pm for a Meet & Greet so that people can come and register, collect their registration packs, put up posters, visit stands & displays, etc. Then from 7pm we will start a programme of evening activities as outlined below.
15.00 Meet & Greet
– Registration (collect Registration Packs)
– Attendees to put up their Gleeson Family History Charts, genealogy posters, etc
– Visit Stands & Displays
– Genealogy consultations (with Nora O’Meara of the North Tipperary Genealogy Centre)
– DNA consultations & testing (with Dr Maurice Gleeson of the Gleason/Gleeson DNA Project)
– Socialising
19.00 Welcome by Michael Gleeson, Chairman of the Organising Committee
Event: Saturday Lecture Programme (event code B1: cost 15 euro)
Venue: The Scouts’ Hall, Ashe Rd, Nenagh Bridge, Nenagh, Tipperary
Time: the Scouts’ Hall will be open from 8.00 am so that new arrivals can come and register. Then from 9.00 am we will start a programme of presentations. Each presentation will be followed by a 5-10 minute Question & Answer session.

These popular tours are a must for anyone interested in the history of the town itself. Kevin comes highly recommended and is a font of information. Cost 5 euro per person (TBC).
12.00-13.00 – Tour of Silvermines village, including the Cornish House, the old Church, and the monument to the massacre of 1641 (Michael O’Brien, C7: free)
13.00-14.15 – light lunch in Hickey’s Pub (C8: buy own lunch)
14.30-15.30 – Kilmore cemetery tour (Pat Sheehan & Denis Gleeson, C9: free)

Day Trip to Thurles (D1-D3)
9.00 – leave for Thurles County Library. The Library contains many genealogical records relating to Tipperary that are not available online. These include the Rate Books which bridge the period between the Tithe Applotement Books and Griffith’s Valuation
10.00 – lecture from Library staff + Question & Answer session (D1: free)
11.00 – stay in Library or visit sites in Thurles town (e.g. GAA Museum, Church, etc)
12.30 – lunch in Thurles town (buy own lunch)
13.30 – leave for Holycross Abbey
14.00 – tour of Holycross Abbey (D2: pay for own tour, cost 4 euro)
15.30 – Coffee Break / Afternoon Tea (self-pay)
16.00 – leave for Rock of Cashel
16.30-18.00 – tour of Rock of Cashel (D3: pay for own tour, cost TBC)
18.30 – dinner in Cashel (buy own dinner)
21.00 – return to Nenagh
