FREE Lecture
Ringforts in the Barony of Ikerrin ….and beyond
Dr Matthew Stout
In 1983-6 Dr Stout worked as an archaeologist on the Roscrea Heritage Society’s first ever archaeological survey employment scheme. While working on this survey, Matthew Stout first began to develop his theories about ringforts and possible approaches to their study.
This talk examines how Stout’s experience in Ikerrin helped to shape his understanding of early medieval settlement. Matthew lectures on landscape history, early medieval history and medieval archaeology in the School of History and Geography, Dublin City University.
His books include The Irish ringfort and Early Medieval Ireland, 431-1169
