The Castles, Tower, & Fortified Houses of Limerick, 1199-1703

This lecture – which includes the Butler Lordship in Tipperary – presents Joseph Lennon’s extensive research on Limerick’s castles and owners from 1199-1703.
He spent 2010-2018 researching and compiling a photographic-survey of all of the remaining castles of Limerick city and county, bringing to the wider public the rich castle-heritage of Limerick – especially obscure and unknown sites. He has contributed to various journals and radio shows and has lectured on castles and on the Cromwellian period. He has completed a comprehensive book on Limerick’s castles, due for publication in 2020. His other area of research is on people, land and religion from 1583-1703.
