  • News

The Cloughjordan Heritage Group have decided to erect a headstone in Ardcroney cemetery at the previously unmarked grave of RIC Constable Thomas Gallivan who was killed during the War of Independence. The event has generated interest further afield and relatives and other interested parties are attending.

RIC Constables Thomas Gallivan and Joseph Daly were captured by the IRA near Nenagh in May 1921. They were shot dead and buried in Clooneen bog in the parish of Cloughjordan. In 1925 the bodies were exhumed and Constable Daly was buried in his homeplace in Enfield, Co Meath. The remains of Constable Gallivan, a native of Killarney, were buried in an unmarked grave in Ardcroney graveyard.

The Cloughjordan Heritage Group will unveil a headstone at his grave on Sat 7 Sept at 2.30pm. Relatives of both men will attend.
