1881 – A Heart Rending Depiction of a Cruel Eviction

The painful account of an eviction in Cappawhite in September 1881. “Never would the tenants surrender to injustice”, stated the leader of the opposition to the ejectments, Rev. John Crowe CC. The eviction was attended by 2,000 protesters from the adjoining parishes, and marshalled by a total of 300 police & soldiers.
