The cancelled valuation books for North Tipp now online
The latest collection of material to go online on www.tippstudiesdigital.ie is a collection of cancelled Valuation Books from North Tipperary County Council, spanning the years 1902 to 1917. The collection covers 76 District Electoral Divisions, and is comprised of 197 cancelled Valuation Books, which contain a rich source of genealogical information across the old North Riding.
The books record the names of people who owned land and buildings across the county, as well as the names of tenants who were examined for valuation. Details of changes to tenancy / land ownership during these years are made in different coloured ink, with the year of change also noted in most instances. When the person liable for valuation moves away or are deceased, the next head of household is also written in, which, in a sense, is an important feature from a genealogical perspective.
This new collection also helps to bridge the time frame between census years 1901 to 1911 and 1911 to 1926. In total there are 12,932 page scans in this new online collection which is available at https://www.tippstudiesdigital.ie/collections/show/87.
