Lady Cleeve, the wife of Sir Thomas Cleeve a Limerick businessman, was a noted philanthropist who was involved in various charities in Limerick city. Including the Shamrock League, which was responsible for starting the custom of selling shamrock abroad. The proceeds went to assist poor families in the city. The Cleeve family had several factories including a creamery in Tipperary town making condensed milk and employing mainly women.
