February lecture – William Despard Hemphill

Join us in The Source Library, Thurles on Tuesday 21 February at 7pm as Dr Karol Mullaney Dignam, author of W.D. Hemphill: Irish Victorian photographer discusses Hemphill and his contribution to Irish photography.

W.D. Hemphill, son of Samuel Hemphill, originally of Springhill, Killenaule was born in 1816 in Clonmel. After qualifying as a doctor, he returned to Clonmel and settled with his wife in Brighton Place and later in Oak Ville. He is best known for his interest in photography and his publication Stereoscopic Illustrations of Clonmel.
