Emly Historical Society’s Events for Heritage Week 2017
Emly Historical Society is delighted to present the following events for Heritage Week 2017:
• Date: Monday 21st August
Time: 7.30pm
Location: ‘Sarsfields Rock’, beside Templebraden Church.
Historian Dr Liam Irwin will speak on the life and achievements of Patrick Sarsfield and the history of ‘Sarsfield Rock’ where on the night of Aug 10th 1690, Sarsfield and his cavalry descended on and captured the Williamite camp containing cannon, ammunition and other siege provisions that was heading for Limerick city to aid the Williamite siege there.

Time: 8.00pm
Location: St Ailbes’s Parish Hall, Emly, Co. Tipperary
Rose Cleary, Senior archaeologist at UCC, will give a talk based on excavations of the Bronze Age Settlement in Chancellorsland, Emly in 1992/93. The talk will cover the excavations on the site and the importance of the site in Irish Archaeology.
• Date: Sunday 27st August
Time: 2.00pm
Location: St Ailbes’s Parish Hall, Emly, Co. Tipperary
Joe Moloney will present and talk on an array of farm and indoor tools of yesteryear. Anyone with old tools or implements at home, that would like to learn more about them, are invited to bring them to the hall on Sunday 27th between 12 and 1pm. Joe will discuss their use with the owners and wider audience during the talk at 2pm.
