The Death Census of 1847 -lecture by Brian Gurrin
We had a wonderful evening on Tuesday in the Source. Mince pies and fruit cake were the order of the day before settling down to Dr. Brian Gurrin’s very informative presentation.
Brian gave the background on the motivations behind the census, the instructions given by O’Connell’s Repeal Association to the clergy and then focused on the Tipperary returns for the remainder of the talk.
This was followed by a lively Q&A session before we headed home.
Thank you to everybody who came along on the night and we hope to see you again for our January 15th lecture ‘Soloheadbeg Ambush; A centenary perspective‘ by Dr. Des Marnane.
Wishing everybody a very happy and healthy Christmas
