It’s over a century since this yuletide report was published, but in it we can see so many familiar Christmas traditions that still endure. The postal staff are rushed off their feet. Town is thronged with last-minute shoppers. The Churches are a-glow with decoration for their special services for the Christmas season. The platforms of the train station – the early 20th century equivalent of today’s airport – are a hive of activity as visitors from afar are welcomed back home.
