Exploring the national Plebiscite 1917-1918, and its significant role in the creation of the first Provisional Republican Government in 1919

Ann’s paper will examine how with the Irish National Aid Volunteer dependents Fund, the National Plebiscite kept the, flame of 1916 alive, leading to the creation of the Provisional Republican Government, (first Dáil Eireann), 1919-1921.

Ann Matthews, historian, author and playwright describes herself as a social and political historian. Her writings focus on women, both in the revolutionary period, and also the fragmented republican movement of the subsequent two decades.
