Lost works of Thurles playwright donated to library

  • News

Jim O’Brien, originally from Parnell Street, Thurles, and who is now based in Louisville, Kentucky, presented a copy of his book, ‘John O’Brien, A Collection of Plays’, to Tipperary Studies. John O’Brien died in 1959. He was Jim’s uncle and wrote many plays under the psuedonym JJ Fintan.

Thurles librarian, Ann-Marie Brophy said “Jim’s book will be a fascinating addition to our local studies collection. It’s an important record of the work by local playwright J.J. Fintan, (real name John O’Brien), whose work is now preserved for future generations.”
